Fall is one of those times. I don’t get to spend much time at home. I suppose that’s the trade for getting to be a sports journalist in the SEC, and the stadiums have always seemed to be a home away from home.
I know a great deal of SEC fans, players and coaches can relate because they to are on the road alongside me. We find ourselves making wherever we are feel like home. There something to be said when you can walk into a place and it feels like you are enjoying a relaxing moment in your own quarters.
The Rebel headquarters is definitely in downtown Atlanta but during this holiday season sometimes it’s good to break away and enjoy some of the other beautiful a places in Atlanta like Buckhead.
I have always been a fan of the new kid on the block or the rookie trying to make a statement amongst the veterans amidst them.
So let’s leave downtown for a bit an head to the Buckhead Atlanta Development to the newly opened Southern Gentleman Gastropub. What Southern Belle doesn’t like the hospitality of a Southern Gentleman after all.
What I think Rebels will love most about this place is the ambience it will make you feel like your back home in Oxford or in one of the quaint spots on the Square.
Co-owner Chris Hadermann shares to new patrons“We want this to feel like stepping into our home. If a friend were visiting Atlanta from New York, we want The Southern Gentleman to feel like the warm, welcoming place you’d want to take them to experience what it means to live the Southern lifestyle—a respect for the familiar traditions, that sophisticated yet unpretentious elegance, but also with a modern edge that makes it exciting and fresh. This is our take on proper Southern hospitality.”
The Rebel Nation sure is the epitome of what it is to show true southern hospitality but every once and a while it’s nice to get that back from others.
This will be worth the time to venture away from downtown and enjoy some splendid and delicious southern delicacies for dinner. If your looking for something delectable and gourmet go for either the CAST-IRON SEARED CULOTTE STEAK with Black Trumpet Mushrooms,Sweet Potato Gratin, ‘Orange-Eye’ Gravy or DUCK & DUMPLINGS :Duck Confit, Root Vegetables, Duck Fat Dumplings. You will not be disappointed.
Now of course we can not visit a Gastropub without sampling the libations of course and let me tell you for any wine ,beer or bourbon connoisseurs you might just enjoy a liquid dinner for this list of libations.
You know where I am going to go with my recommendations straight to the bourbon. This is a list to die for if you love good bourbon. Pair it off with a nice cigar if your are so incline to and you might just be in heaven.
So my top choices to try :
- Eagle Rare 17 year
- George T. Stagg
- Elmer T. Lee
- Jeffersons’ 23 year
- Pappy Van Winkle (if they happen to still have a bottle)
If ryes are your preference:
- E.H. Taylor Rye
- Willet Rye
- Thomas H. Handy
I have personally sampled each one of these bourbons and I assure you there is one for every palette and pocketbook. Each one of these are of great quality so if you choose to splurge or not you will still be satisfied if you bought the $7.00 or $25 pour.
